http://www.wearethecure.org/

I came across this site and thought I would share the link so others could check it out.  It feels so surreal that I came across this site tonight...  As some of you know, my 13 year old pit bull Reese was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year.  She was given a few months back then and has managed to beat the odds, so far.  (I did A LOT of research and she's been on a "cancer diet" and I firmly believe that is why she's been with us longer than she should have.)  But I see the signs that her time may be coming to an end.  She's slowing down, she's ouchy more often, and has less interest in the things that she used to enjoy.  She now gets let out the front door because there are no steps.  And these are things that I've been noticing over the last few days.  I know it's just a matter of time before we have to make the decision to put her down...something that chokes me up to think about even now.  (Ah hell, now I've gotta wipe the tears away...)  So, it's just sort of odd that I'd come across this page just a few hours of expressing my concern for Reese to Matt.

Anyway, it seems like a decent site.  I haven't done much research on it, but it's about time someone did something for canine cancer.  One of the things I like about this site is they allow you to set up your own fund raising page that you can tell your dog's story and raise money for the NCCF, in your dog's name.  I'm thinking I may do something like that for Reese...so that some good may come from her cancer.  (Of course, I'll make sure they're reputable first.)

According to their mission page, they fund grants to researchers "who are working to save lives, find cures, better treatments and accurate, cost effective diagnostic methods in dealing with canine Cancer".  "Accurate, cost effective diagnostic methods" would be great.

I guess I should have said how reputable they use the funds.  Like how much goes to admin.
